On Wednesday, September
17, 2008, Toledo Opera will announce the completion of
its $2 Million capital campaign. The success of the Crescendo
Campaign will be celebrated at the home of Mary and Fritz
Wolfe from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The celebration party will
recognize and thank the Opera Trustees who created and
led the campaign. We will also recognize and thank all
donors. Special thanks will go to Lucille Gorski, who this
past spring contributed a gift of $1,000,000.00 to complete
the campaign.
The Crescendo Campaign was begun
in the fall of 2005 for the dual purpose of doubling
the size of the opera’s
existing endowment and supporting operating costs related
to artistic excellence in Toledo Opera performances. Trustee
Jim White originated the campaign. Over the next three
years, trustees, including Marianne Ballas, Rita Mansour
and current Board Chairman Hussien Shousher, met with individuals
and companies to secure over 350 gifts.
It is particularly fitting that
Lucille Gorski’s
generous gift completed the Crescendo Campaign. Early in
their marriage, Luci Gorski introduced her husband, Ted,
to opera. Ted had never attended an opera before meeting
her. When she declared to him one time that she hoped to “die
at the opera”, he knew he should probably learn more
about it. And learn he did. In addition to their
being season ticket holders for years, Ted was President
of the Toledo Opera in 1984-85. He and Luci helped establish
the first endowment fund for Toledo Opera through a matching
gift campaign completed just after Ted’s death in
1998. Luci continues to serve on the Board of Trustees.
Members of the Press are invited to the celebration party
on September 17 (please call 419-255-7464 for reservation).
A Press Kit will be available, with information provided
by the Gorski family about the founding and growth of their
successful medical device business, their involvement in
charitable giving in Toledo, and their generous support
of Toledo Opera throughout the years. Interviews with Luci
Gorski can be arranged at that time.
